Hey Queens, as you all know I had just gotten my hair done for the new year (pictured in the previous post); however, just six days after getting it done, I got rid of it and brought my curls back.  I washed my hair and deep conditioned as usual with Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise and honey. After I deep conditioned I  rubbed a little Shea Moisture Deep Treatment mask through out my hair, followed by Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and sealed with Jamaican Mango and Lime Locking Creme Wax. I twisted my hair in small sections and then wrapped the twists into bantu knots. Moisturizing and twisting took up to an hour to complete. In the morning, when I unraveled I was pleased with the look and feel of my hair.

My Bantu Knot Out

Before I decided to stop perming my hair, I was very daring with my hair style choices; I would have a completely new look every month. But now because of my length constraint I feel very limited to what styles I can actually wear (patiently waiting for my hair to get to a descent length). This month, for no particular reason, I guess, I decided to experiment with my look. I have a sew in with 14 inch straight hair, something I haven’t worn since my high school days. Loving the look for now, but the kinks will definitely be back soon.

Every now and then I really want to put my hair away in some kind of protective style where I don’t have to see or touch it for a while.  I contemplated many different styles from braids, rope twists (my usual), and even sew ins. But every time I thought about the money and time that would be spent to achieve either of those styles I no longer desired them. I had a dilemma.  I browsed the web in search of a perfect protective style for my hair  and found my solution…a half wig. :)   I went to the hair store that same day and this is what I found. I was soooooo excited because I actually really like it; my hair can finally rest, it was inexpensive and it’s quick. If you search youtube, you can see how other Queens style theirs so that it’s impossible to tell that it’s a wig. To blend your hair into the wig so that it looks natural all you need to do is leave only a very small amount of hair remaining in the front and brush it in with a small amount of gel to cover where the wig begins. Let me know what you think?

It is the Vanessa brand and it’s called Miko.

This past weekend was eventful.  My son, fiance, and I traveled out of town to be with family.  Above is a pic of me and my sisters heading out to enjoy the evening (one is missing from the pic; i have 3 sisters).  As you can see we all wear our hair natural. To the Far Left we have my youngest sister in the process of growing dreads. To accomplish this she twists her hair with extensions and retwists the new growth at the roots.

In the middle is my older sister, Lisa. She is rocking a voluptuous twist out. And to the right is me of course. I am rocking a high puff brought to the front of my face.  It’s a fun  and simple hair style to do.  It was most appropriate for the weekend.  Below is another pic of all three of us, loving our natural do’s.

As you all can see, the defined curls that I had a couple of days ago have turned into a big puff. But that’s o.k, I worked with it anyway.  I wet the front and slid some gel through it to keep the curls. Here it is, this is how I’m wearing my  hair today Queens. :)

This is my version of a Janelle Monae inspired do. I flat twisted the back towards the top of my head but left a chunck of hair from the  front out. I did four big twists with hair left in the front and unraveled the next day.  I am pleased with it because it’s different/stylish and it also serves as a protective style.  I find that I prefer when my ends are tucked away; it means less combing and more growth. It also doesn’t hurt that I have been receiving a generous amount of compliments on the style too.

This week I have been wearing my hair in a unique up do. I first started with a goody headband using a combination of Olive Oil Hold and Style Gel and Eco Style Gel to sleek my hair down. Then I took sections and pinned under with hair pins.  I am so pleased with the outcome.  This style was inspired by my sis, Lisa, also blogger of www.kinks-rule.blogspot.com. See pic below

This weekend I ‘accidentally’ wore my first braid out ever.   I attempted a braid out once, maybe twice, before when my hair was shorter; it definitely never worked for me. Last night, however, I washed my hair, with V05 Shampoo/conditioner. I then, moisturized with raw shea butter and olive oil. Then I braided my hair into about 6 huge braids just so that my hair would be stretched in preparation for another style that I wanted to try the following day. Well, the next day, my dad unexpectedly made a trip to my side of town, and I hurriedly took out the braids so that I could go see him. I was pleasantly surprised when I unraveled the braids.  Not having time to do the style that I intended to do in the first place, I just wore my hair like you see above, and went on my way. I was pleased with the results. It made me realize, too, how much my hair has progressed over the past year. All the thoughts I had about ending my natural hair journey suddenly went out the door.

curly rope twists

Recently, in an attempt to change my style up, I curled my straight rope twists midway with curling rods.  First, I did approximately six huge braids with all of the hair.  I braided each section all the way to the end.  Then I wrapped the curling rods along each braid up til’ midway.  I then dipped each braid individually in boiling hot water.  I waited til the braids were somewhat dry then removed the curling rods. I was pleasantly surprised on how defined and bouncy the curls turned out to be. Here is my curled rope twists inspirations:
